How To Be A Housewife

Some one please teach me!
Tim and I have been married for 10 months and so far... I'm just not picking up the housewife habits that I want to be.  I do alright with the dishes and laundry, but I'm not exactly the Sandra Lee, Katie Lee Joel, look gorgeous while cooking up awesome meals and having a shiny house woman that I thought that I would be by this point.

The truth is, I don't exactly know how to cook.  I'm pretty good at baking and I can mix a good cocktail when the occasion calls for it, but I never really learned how to cook.
(unless Kraft mac and cheese counts.)
This is what I envisioned for myself as a wife
Via
I want to try to change that starting this week.
But it's going to take baby steps and a lot of patience on my part, I can already tell.

So... I have a favor to ask of you, my sweet friends.
Can you please email me (melissafaad@gmail.com) your favorite basic, go to recipe.
I know we all have one... the easy, crowd pleaser.
I want to try to make some new things for dinner this upcoming week
(and then I'll feature my attempt at your recipe with a link to your blog on this blog!).

Some things to keep in mind:

No lobster or crab
Minimal use of nuts
Anything seasonal is great and a bonus!

Thank you all in advance!

Have there been any areas of wife life that you've struggled with?
Who taught you how to cook?

I just sent you an email :)

I have really just taught myself to cook. I find recipes that sound good, and I go from there. I also watch a completely normal amount of Food Network, and I learn a bunch of tips and things from there.

Hey! New reader :) Don't worry, I have been married 3 years and I still have places I want to improve. Just remember marriage is a journey and it's more fun when you are striving to grow! (Just remember to grow together!)

I'm not sure where I learned to cook, probably just by watching cooking shows or others and trying it out. It gets easier the more you practice! I like to try out a lot of new things, so I don't really have a go-to recipe but chili is always really easy because you can make it on the stove or in the crock pot and it's healthy!

Grab a can of chili beans, a can of kidney beans, a package of chili seasoning, and some ground beef, turkey or shredded chicken.

If the meat is raw you will want to cook it up first. Then, whether you want to make it on the stove or in the crock pot, just throw all the ingredients together. Cook in the crock pot on high for a couple hours or low for 3-4 hours. On the stove, just let everything simmer together for 20-25 min and it's done! There really isn't a way to mess up chili. The longer it cooks, the more the flavors meld together.

Serve with some rolls or cornbread, cheese and sour cream and you have a meal!

One more tip - If you are trying something new you are not sure will turn out correctly, make a dessert. That always makes a meal better even if it didn't turn out how you wanted!

Happy cooking and good luck!

I didn't know how to cook at all when we got married and I don't exactly enjoy it, but I'm learning. I use Pinterest a lot and if something looks too hard or has way too many ingredients, I just find something else. Try to make it fun! There are no "perfect" wives. Remember that!

jake and I have been together 8 years and now int he last 2 years have I really learned how to cook. Its okay you arent supposed to fall into it and hell you may never but if he knew from the beginning you were coco chanel instead of martha stewart then you have nothing to worry about.

Bless your heart! It takes a lot of practice to become a good cook and a great domesticated wife. I have been married for 7 years and am just now a profesh. ;)

I recommend downloading the All Recipes application on your phone. Or just take a look at the website. They have fantastic recipes that can be as easy or hard as you desire. Check out the Shrimp scampi!

As you know, I have prided myself in not being "domestic" for years. But in the past few months of being a housewife vs. A breadwinner I found that it's easiest for me to treat it like a job. I still set an alarm. I make a list of what needs to get done this week and break it down into manageable tasks. But most importantly, I have to finish my tasks before the fun stuff. Yoga, crafting, surfing the net, all come AFTER.
As for cooking, I don't know why I've avoided it for so many years (all my life) it really is as simple as following the recipe. I'm not sure how much of a health nit you and Tim are/want to be, but I have some awesome links! Follow all kinds of cooking pages on fb. And def put a recipe ap in your phone!
I miss you. Always. This housewife business would be a lot more fun if I had you as my co-conspirator.
